Cleaning Your Dishwasher: Who, What, When, and Why!

Don’t Worry—We’re Here for You.

Look, we know —cleaning your dishwasher isn’t always the most fun thing in the world. Just the phrase alone seems like a daunting task. For some, it brings to mind images of dirty, green scrub brushes and hours spent with your head jammed into the appliance. But don’t fret! As far as that goes—those days are over. We’re happy to say that cleaning your dishwasher doesn’t have to be a dreadful, avoid-at-all-costs sort of ordeal. With Glisten Dishwasher Magic, washing your dishwasher couldn’t be much easier.

Today, we’ve put together a little cheat sheet for all your dishwasher-cleaning needs. With the right know-how and some Glisten Dishwasher Magic, you’ll be well on your way to a sparkling clean dishwasher.

Who

For most of us, cleaning the kitchen often has the unfortunate tendency of falling on one person’s shoulders. We certainly know that feeling! The good news is that Glisten Dishwasher Magic is about as set-it-and-forget-it as you can get. Simply place the bottle in your appliance, and let Glisten do the work, while you handle the rest of the kitchen!

On the other hand, if you’ve got some kiddos running around the house—get them involved! Glisten Dishwasher Magic makes it easy enough for the whole family to lend a hand. Kids of all ages seem to have a never-ending desire for independence, and letting them help with cleaning the kitchen can be a great way to tap into that! Glisten Dishwasher Magic is so easy to use, you can have the little ones lend a helping hand in cleaning the dishwasher. All it requires is a little careful supervision from you, and a bit of guided button-pressing/knob-turning from them. When the kids see what a great job they’ve done (thanks mostly to Glisten Dishwasher Magic, but shh…), they’ll be thrilled.

What

We can’t legally say that Glisten Dishwasher Magic uses actual magic to get the job done. But, all things considered…it’s pretty close. Glisten Dishwasher Magic easily gets rid of rust, grease and other buildup caused by hard water, detergent, and food residues. On top of that, Dishwasher Magic is ultra-effective against ever-pesky, ever-present limescale buildup! For the unindoctrinated, limescale is that chalky-white crust that often lurks where water is found. Typically, it’s extremely resistant to the normal alkaline detergents used in dishwashing machines. However, with Dishwasher Magic, getting rid of that limescale buildup is a cinch.

In fact, there’s literally no product on Earth quite like ours. Our Dishwasher Magic is the only EPA-registered dishwasher cleaner and disinfectant in the world. On top of all this, Glisten Dishwasher Magic is a limited disinfectant against both Escherichia coli and Salmonella. It goes without saying that E. Coli and Salmonella are very much unwanted guests. So, no matter what you see in the news, rest assured—Glisten Dishwasher Magic is here to help.

When

So, how often should you be washing your dishwasher? Although it depends on how often you use the appliance, a good rule of thumb is once or twice per month. Regardless of how often you’re running dishes through, food and bacterial buildup can happen quite fast. In many cases, this buildup occurs much more quickly than you might expect.

As you could probably guess, there are a lot of moving parts to your standard household dishwasher. Like any cleaning appliance, a dishwasher features a filter that is hugely important to the smooth operation of the machine. Food debris, grease, and limescale accumulate quickly on the filter screen (and just about everywhere else). Once that buildup happens, your dishwasher can no longer effectively circulate water. As you can imagine, that’s going to be a problem. If you’re running family-sized dishwasher loads several times per week, it doesn’t take long for that filter to get clogged! To keep things running smoothly, we’d suggest monthly or bi-monthly use of Dishwasher Magic.

Why

So here’s the big question—why? Why bother cleaning your dishwasher? What’s the worst that could happen?

Well, you may think that the dishwasher’s standard cycle essentially cleans itself. Hot, soapy water going everywhere…how dirty can it get? In reality, each time you run your dishwasher, detergent residue, food oils, and other undesirables build up on the internal components of the machine. By keeping on top of this buildup, you’re going to do yourself (and your dishwasher) a couple of favors.

First—longevity. It’s as simple as this: The more often you clean your dishwasher, the longer it’s going to be cleaning your dishes. As your machine’s internal components get clogged up with all this gunk, it becomes more and more stressful for the dishwasher to run at all. As you increase the amount of work being put on your appliance, it’s going to wear out much more quickly.

Secondly, and probably most obviously—sanitary reasons. Food bits and gunk build up inside your dishwasher as it runs repeatedly. Over time, the result is (sorry, this is gross) basically a dishwasher full of rotten food. As you can probably guess, that’s a great way to catch food born illnesses. Obviously, that situation is neither safe nor sanitary, so it’s a good idea to keep a keen eye on the cleanliness of your dishwasher.

One more reason (as if we need it at this point!) is efficiency. By keeping your machine running at its peak performance, it’s going to use significantly less energy and water to get the same work done. For you, that could mean money saved, and a bit of good for the environment!

Conclusion

Keeping a clean, healthy dishwasher is hugely important. Unfortunately, the idea of actually cleaning your dishwasher might not sound like the most appealing way to spend an afternoon. Thankfully, Glisten Dishwasher Magic is here for you. With just one or two uses per month, you can improve your dishwasher’s capabilities, while also lengthening its lifespan. And on top of that, we’ve formulated Dishwasher Magic to be as easy-to-use as standard dishwasher detergent. Just pop it in, run the appliance, and let us do the work.  What’s not to love?
