Quick Cleaning Tips for the Holidays

Quick Cleaning Tips for the Holidays

Before you can enjoy a holiday gathering with family and friends, you have a big task in front of you… cleaning the house. It’s probably the last thing you want to do,  but it’s necessary to get some semblance of order before you mess it all up again with cooking, dishes, and the inevitable mess that’s left behind after entertaining.

That’s why cleaning hacks are so popular—because quick cleaning is essential when there is so much fun to be had. And that’s why we work so hard to create products that make your job easier.

Prep for Laundry

Before gathering your laundry items, head to your laundry room and drop a Plink Washer and Dishwasher tablet into the washing machine. Plink will remove any buildup and odor-causing residue from the washing machine and the pipes, so your clothes will be fresher than ever after they complete the spin cycle.

Tackle the Whole House

As easy as going room by room may sound, you’ll actually make more headway if you tackle the whole house at once. Rather than completing each room before moving to the next, choose one task and do that task in each room. For instance, start with cleaning all clutter throughout the house. Then turn off the ceiling fans and clean them before tackling the cobwebs in high corners of the room.

Prep the Kitchen and Baths

Before you cruise through the house with your duster, take a few minutes to visit the kitchen and each bathroom to spray down the sinks, microwave, stove top, showers, tubs, and toilets with cleanser. Then head to your next task and let the cleaner do its job of breaking down the grease, grime, dirt, and stains.

Clean the Mirrors and Windows

A glass-cleaning product is fine when cleaning your mirrors and windows, but you may find that a damp cloth followed by a dry one is all you need to clean even the streakiest of glass. If you need a little help with grime or fingerprints and don’t have a glass cleaner on hand, a little vinegar mixed with water can do the trick.

Disinfect Countertops and Surfaces

You’ve probably noticed that all of your cleaning tasks started up high, and now you’re finally down to counter height. You’ll be glad at this point that you don’t have to redo any of the previous tasks because you forgot to clean the ceiling fans. Simply dust and wipe down all surfaces before using your disinfectant of choice.

You’ll also be thrilled that you took the time to spray down the bathrooms and kitchen, because all that dirt and grime will wipe away with ease during this step in your cleaning routine. Load up the dishwasher and get it started. It’s probably time at this point to check on the next load of laundry, too.

Attention: Floors

By now, all of your cleaning from the top will have sent dust and debris to the bottom—the floors. Start with a good sweep over solid floors, such as tile, hardwoods, and linoleum. Then run the vacuum over carpets, rugs, and even the solid floors to pick up any additional dust. Finally, it’s time to mop.

The Finishing Touches

You’re almost done now! It’s just the finishing touches you’ll need, such as replacing any of the decorative towels and floor mats after they’re done in the laundry. You’ll also want to put away the dishes, and run the empty dishwasher with a Plink Washer and Dishwasher tablet to keep it fresh before your next load of dishes. Finally, wash up all your cleaning tools—sponges, brushes, mops, and brooms—so they’re clean and ready for the next use.

Turbo Charge: Get the Family Involved

Doing all of these tasks on your own will definitely take some time. The family might not be too excited about jumping in to help…until they realize they’ll get to enjoy the holiday fun faster. Get the kids involved with tasks that are age appropriate, and your house will be sparkling and ready for holiday festivities in no time!
